A PRAYER FOR OUR CHILDREN RETURNING TO SCHOOL

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

Every year at this time, my heart and my spirit begins to burn in prayer for my grandchildren. This year, the burn is intensified and includes friends and loved ones who work at school districts.

The spirit of fear appears to be running rampant as the debate is becoming a heated discussion. "Should we send our children to school or keep them home? Mask or unmask? The "world" has told us to be afraid. But what does the Lord have to say to us?

1John 4 (NASB) tells us "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error."

Am I making light of the corona-virus? No. There is cause to be cautious and concerned. I empathize with those who are faced with the difficult decisions they will soon have to make. My prayer for you is that the Lord will give you greater discernment and wisdom as you seek the path the Lord would have you to take. I join my faith with yours that you will hear from the Lord. And when you make that decision, that His peace will drench you from head to toe.

Here is a prayer that you can use as a model as you pray over your loved ones. Recite it out loud knowing that His Word never comes back void. It does the work that it is intended to do.

Lord Jesus, I give You thanks and praise that You supply every need of [fill in the blank] according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). I lift up [fill in the blank] for Your divine protections as [he/she] enters into a new school year because You are [his//her] refuge and fortress (Psalm 91:2).

Father We pray that You guide [his/her] steps by Your Word so that they will not be overcome by evil (Psalm 119:133, NLT). We bind any fear or anxiety that they may be experiencing because we know that the spirit of fear does NOT come from You; instead, You have given [him/her] a spirit of POWER, LOVE AND A SOUND MIND. (2Timothy 1:7)

And like King David, in everything that [he/she] does, [he/she] will have great success because You are with [him/her] (1Samuel 18:14). In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen
